Suicide Squad is a 2016 American superhero film based on the DC Comics antihero team of the same name. The film is a spin-off of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and is set in the same universe as Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Wonder Woman (2017). The film is directed by David Ayer and stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Karen Fukuhara.

In Suicide Squad, a group of supervillains are recruited by the government to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for reduced prison sentences. The team is led by Rick Flag (Kinnaman), a US Army colonel, and Amanda Waller (Davis), a government official who will stop at nothing to protect her country. The team also includes Deadshot (Smith), a skilled assassin; Harley Quinn (Robbie), a psychotic psychiatrist; Captain Boomerang (Courtney), a skilled thief; Killer Croc (Akinnuoye-Agbaje), a humanoid crocodile; and El Diablo (Hernandez), a pyrokinetic.

The Suicide Squad is sent on a mission to destroy a Nazi-era weapon of mass destruction called “Enchantress” (Delevingne), who has possessed June Moone, a young woman with psychic abilities. The team must work together to stop Enchantress from destroying the world.

Suicide Squad was a commercial success, grossing over $746 million worldwide. However, the film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the performances of the cast and the film’s action sequences, while others criticized the film’s dark and violent tone.

Despite the mixed reviews, Suicide Squad has spawned a franchise, with a sequel, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, scheduled to be released in 2023. The film will also be the subject of a spin-off television series, Peacemaker, which will star John Cena as the character of Peacemaker.
